Add new redolog group

Check for existing redolog groups

On UNIX filesystem redologs are stored in folder /oracle/<SID>/origlog<X> and mirrored in folder /oracle/<SID>/mirrlog<X> You can check for existing groups with following SQL command:

select * from V$LOG;

Example of SQL output:

wiki oracle add new redolog group

Add new redolog groups

To add redolog group use following SQL command:

alter database add logfile group <group number> ('<path to origlog including filename>','<path to mirrlog including filename>') size <size of file>;

From previous output check what is the last redolog group number. New redolog group will be using next number in row. Example of SQL commands:

wiki oracle add new redolog group
alter database add logfile group 68 ('/oracle/YRP/origlogA/logYRPg68m1.ora','/oracle/YRP/mirrlogA/logYRPg68m2.ora') size 600M;

Example of SQL output:

Verify if new groups are available

Execute same command as in first step:

select * from V$LOG;

Now you should see new files added. Example of SQL output:

wiki oracle add new redolog group
